Enhancing ones business on the Budget

While the recently announced stimulus package will certainly help to sustain SMEs in these turbulent economic waters, one should never be purely dependent on Government handouts in running a business.

This is a view held firmly by PropNex CEO Mohamed Ismail, who speaks this evening at the EDC-organised seminar “Implications of the Budget 2009 for Companies” at the MND Auditorium.

“SMEs need to fully understand the various benefits and initiatives available to them and take advantage of said benefits,” says Mohamed Ismail, “not only to survive but to use as a springboard to take their business to the next level.”

He adds that this is also an opportune time for SMEs to examine their operations and fundamentals, so as to identify any organisational weaknesses and strengthen their foundations. This will enable them to better reap the benefits of the inevitable upturn when it comes.

Beyond the stimulus package, Mohamed Ismail also feels that business owners need to go back to the fundamental necessity of incorporating Information Technology in every possible aspect of their business especially in the real estate business where IT can be leverage to achieve economies of scale.

“IT saves companies costs, increases efficiency and productivity and provides them with a global outreach. One simply cannot afford to ignore the importance of IT, regardless of the size of one’s organisation,” he states.

In conclusion, Mohamed Ismail feels that for companies which are already doing well, the tax rebate incentives make this the best time for them to demonstrate social awareness with charitable contributions.

The seminar, which will be held this evening from 6pm at the MND Auditorium, will also feature speakers Mr Alfred Chia, CEO of SingCapital; Mr Lau Weng Hong, Deputy Director (Labour Relations) at MOM; and Mr Clarence Tan, Senior Manager at WDA.
